Research Interests:
I currently work in the lab of Dr. Stella Sun, where we primarily use cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to reveal in situ cellular dynamics and structures. My project is on exploring the restricted trafficking of intraflagellar transport (IFT) protein complexes in the flagellum of the single-celled eukaryotic parasite, Trypanosoma brucei (T. brucei). I will use cryo-ET to reveal the spatial organization of IFT complexes around their docking site at the base of the flagellum, and subtomogram averaging to explore structural features of the flagellum base that contribute to IFT regulation. Additionally, I will employ fluorescence microscopy and ultrastructure expansion microscopy to explore these questions.
